Gentle, Science-Based Dog Training
At Better Together Canine Learning, we focus on kindness and science to help you build a trusting, loving bond with your dog through humane and effective training.
Welfare-Focused Training Backed by Science
Our training philosophy is rooted in positive reinforcement and fully force‑free, fear‑free methods supported by modern animal behavior science. We follow the LIFE model (least inhibitive, functionally effective) to guide thoughtful, humane decision‑making throughout the training process. We prioritize creating an environment where every dog feels safe, supported, and motivated to learn, building a foundation of lifelong trust and mutual respect between dogs and their owners. To uphold these standards, we do not permit aversive tools, including: shock (e‑) collars, prong collars, choke chains, slip leads used as tightening devices, or any equipment designed to cause discomfort, pain, or fear.

Positive Reinforcement, Negative Punishment, & Management
We rely on reward‑based training that builds desirable behaviors through confidence rather than stress or fear. When we need to reduce unwanted behaviors, we use negative punishment—such as removing access to attention or a preferred activity—while always prioritizing setups that help the dog succeed. We also incorporate management tools like baby gates, exercise pens, and long training lines to create safe, structured environments that support effective learning.
Force-Free & Choice-based Approach
Our training is entirely free from force or intimidation to keep dogs comfortable. We focus on working at the dog's individual pace.
